I recently heard that Bayer divested its diabetes care portfolio in Europe to Panasonic Healthcare Holdings and Ascensia in Canada.
This type of news isn't surprising, really. It's all about the business side of any industry and companies do what's best for their bottom line. Personally, I didn't even realize this was finalized in January. I always see glucose monitors in the stores, and they still have the Bayer name on them. So it will be interesting to see if things change over the course of the year with the change in holdings, or whether Panasonic or Ascensia will change the packaging to reflect their ownership of the brand now.
What will also be interesting and exciting will be to see what products might come out with the divestment. Will Panasonic Healthcare incorporate some new tech? Will they find a way to make meters with more features than some of the current ones?
Personally, I'm looking forward to seeing what is coming in the world of diabetes treatment and monitoring.
Stay tuned.
